Love You to The Moon: Space Themed Valentine Party

Prepare to BLAST OFF with this Valentine’s Day celebration.  Show your little astronauts that you love them to the moon and back with a galactic good time.  A bonus is that with a few changes this could also become an out of this world birthday party.  From the solar system decorations to the rocket ship cupcake stand, this party was ready for lift off and a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with any aspiring astronaut or space enthusiast.

LAUNCHING PAD DESSERT TABLE

Any astronaut knows that you cannot blast off on an empty stomach.  This was the first time to incorporate all the space themed food like Saturn rings, milky Way bars, Moon Pies, Celestial cookies, Space man Cotton Candy, and moon rock suckers.  The rocket tower holding the cupcakes was the center of the universe and talk of the party.  Halls Takes the Cake made these delicious cupcakes in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry then we topped them with Meri Meri cupcake toppers.  As an added element to the experience, I bought astronaut ice cream in vanilla and napoleon for the boys to try.  I really wanted to buy more of this freeze-dried food used in space to taste test but stopped at ice cream for now.

UNIVERSAL DECORATIONS

Yes, pun intended, because the decorations for this Valentine’s Day party could easily transition to a Space themed party.  When I initially brainstormed this idea, I wanted to come up with a festive yet fun idea for my boys to celebrate this holiday that is normally all about heart-shapes and colors of pink and red.  Those type of decorations just do not work for us.  Check out these pervious themes:

Love is a Battlefield Valentine’s Day Dinner

Superhero Valentine’s Day Breakfast

Star Wars Valentine’s Day Dinner

After receiving a telescope for Christmas, the boys have been more interested in all things space.  Plus, the quote, love you to the moon and back kept popping into my head.  With the help of Pinterest and google, I landed on several party boutique sites like MOMO Party, Ellie and Piper, and Meri Meri Party Shop.  There I found the most adorable party decorations.

Here is list of all the details:

HEART-SHAPED FOOD IDEAS

Before they launch into all the sweets, we have a festive dinner with the whole family.  Instead of pizza, this year we served heart-shaped hamburgers with heart-shaped cheese and bun.  All the hamburger fixins were displayed on a charcuterie board.  Also on the menu was heart-shaped ranch roasted potatoes, heart-shaped carrots, fruit rocket kabobs, alien JELL-O, chocolate covered strawberries, and onion rings.  The boy’s favorite part was the raspberry sorbetto mixed with lemon lime soda and topped with cotton candy!

SPACE LOVE BASKETS

Along with the dinner celebration, each year we incorporate the Love Bucket Tradition.  This year, the bucket turned it into a LOVE basket.  No real reason for the switch except I just loved the way that it all looked together.  Each basket was filled with tons of space themed items like solar system puzzles, galaxy bath bombs, glow in the dark stars, galactic play dough sets, Space Games, outer space pajamas, constellation books, and more.  The heart tags are from a shop that I have used before for Halloween called Whisker Works.  Finally, it is topped off with cute printable flags that are FREE to download from our website here.  Also check out LOVE Bucket Tradition for more information to incorporate this idea with your kids too.

Well, I hope your Space cadets love it just as much as mine did.  To switch this theme up for a birthday party or other celebration just simply take away the heart placemats and change the wording on the garland.  We actually hosted a SNAP SHIPS zoom party the very next day and it was the perfect set up for this party too.
