One thing that you will notice on this blog, is all the magic that we add to every holiday. Before we had kids, Valentine’s Day was insignificant and well just plain boring. I knew we needed to jazz it up a bit. So we began adding traditions like Valentine’s mailboxes and Love Buckets. Next, we incorporated a fun themed dinner. It started out as a simple heart theme but I could never settle with just that. Probably because I felt that I had to add a little something extra to get my boys excited about it too. The tradition of a themed Valentine’s dinner began. All the hearts, roses, pinks, and reds should be enough of a theme for Valentine’s Day. However, one year we added mustaches to the hearts for ‘I mustache you to be my Valentine’ and last year was Star Wars themed. The boys really loved it. THE SUPER DECOR
Like last year, I found some fun fabric from Jo-Ann craft store to make a table runner and matching napkins. Trust me when I say this but anyone can sew both these with minimal skill level. I used extra wide double folded bias tape on the runner to sew it together. Then cut two pieces of fabric into equal squares and sewed them inside out first. Then by leaving a small hole, I flipped it right side out and hand sewed the opening closed. Both took me just a couple hours to do start to finish.
PLACE SETTING
One of my favorite ways to decorate a table is by layering place settings. I found the heart placemats from Pier1 and added a black charger. Then topped them with superhero plates from Zak Designs. Potterybarn Kids also had these adorable heart shaped bowls that worked great for our cereal bar.
CEREAL BAR
When I scrolled upon these superhero candy bowl holders, I knew I just had to have them. They were a huge hit with the boys. You can find the Captain America, Spider-man, and Iron Man candy bowl holders on Amazon. To go along with these newly found themed decor, I found a cityscape made out of cardstock that I wrapped around a cake stand. All the printable decor, was specially made for our breakfast by Stephanie at B Squared Design. She did an awesome job and it all worked perfectly. THE SUPER FOOD
To be honest, I was bored with the same heart shaped pizza from the last two years. So this year, I decided to do our meal at breakfast time to mix it up a little. Trying to decide between a cereal bar and waffle bar left me doing both. Why not? They actually had a blast mixing together different cereal concoctions and trying them out. The Captain American fruit shield was my favorite. Also the Captain America waffle maker that my son got for Christmas came in real handy. I totally planned that. You should of heard his reaction Christmas morning…a waffle maker?? Really mom?
LOVE BUCKETS
Each boy got their Love Bucket on Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t heard about this then check out a recent blog post about how to start this love bucket tradition with your family. They happily wore their new superhero pajamas with matching capes and masks to the breakfast. Seeing them so excited brings me more joy than they will ever know.
