What to Wear on Your Disney Cruise Part 2 – Halloween On The High Seas

There is just something about the ability to travel to so many different destinations without having to pack and re-pack.  The number one question that I hear from anyone going on a cruise is ‘what do I pack to wear?’  Outside of a bathing suit, you will obviously need some other clothes too.  Maybe not to the existent of 30 outfits for 7 nights, but who’s counting?!  Disney Cruise Line has several themed nights including pirate and formal night that you will want to participate in.

We just got back from our second Disney cruise on the Halloween on the High Seas and I can’t wait to share all our fun family outfit ideas.  If you haven’t seen my original post from our Very Merrytime Cruise then click here.

Embarkation Day

Oops, I did it again.  We are the matching shirt family that you either love or hate.  I have tamed it down a lot over the years to just doing the shirts for one day.  We found these adorable Halloween On the High Seas Cruise shirts from Creative Life Boutique.  I got them in a variety of colors and loved how they turned out.

Formal Night

So for this night, I had one goal in mind!  It was to feel like a Princess and that is just what I did.  I decided on Cinderella because she is the princess in my favorite fairy tale.  After searching the internet for days, I stumbled upon a dress from Amazon that we’ll just didn’t work.  It was pretty but I looked like I ate that blueberry gum from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.  After much deliberation, the next and final dress was one that I found from New York Dress.  It was off the shoulder and just the right color blue.  I was in love!  That night I even added rhinestones to my hair like from the movie. One of the photographers actually thought that I was Cinderella for a minute and a few little girls kept their eyes on me a little longer walking by.

For my hubby’s outfit, I found a grey suit on clearance at Macy’s end of season sale and purchased a matching blue tie and pocket square.  All the matching ties and bow ties for each of the them were purchased on Etsy.  Finally, I knew that I needed a Prince Charming and his outfit stole the show.  I may be partial but he was the cutest little prince ever!  The outfit came from Cupcake’s Cottage and it was very well made.

Pirate Night

Almost everyone dresses up in some sort of pirate gear from simple t-shirts to full on costumes.  Surprisingly, the boys could re-use most of their Pirate costumes that we purchase from the Disney Store a couple years ago except for the little guy.  The cruise ship had the same pirate outfits available for purchase in the gift shop on deck 11 and BBB if needed.  These were from the Pirates of the Caribbean and not sold online anymore. The toddler pirate costume was purchased from HalloweenCostumes.com. For my costume, I used the same one from Majestic Velvets but switched out my long sleeve shirt for a short sleeve option from Amazon and bought some new jewelry from Amazon. Yo Ho Ho!

Halloween Party Night

Grad your costumes for this night is Halloween.  Wear your costumes to dinner or quickly change after for the Mickey’s Mouse-querade party and trick or treating.  Most cruise goers dress up in some sort of costume and even the characters dress up in their Halloween attire.  We wore color themed clothes to dinner in black and orange because that was easier for the boys to eat in.  I found this fun Mickey jeweled shirt in a candy corn color pattern from Tees Go Bling and paired it with a black polka dot skirt and my Halloween Mickey ears.  My hubby and the older boys wore orange and black polos.  Finally, my little guy had the most adorable outfit on complete with suspenders.  When I reached out to the Etsy seller at Millie and Margaux and asked if she could do a Halloween themed outfit, she was all in.  It turned out perfect!

After dinner, we changed into our Nightmare Before Christmas family costumes.  We wore these costumes for last Halloween and everyone loved them. There is a special interactive sing and scream viewing of the Nightmare Before Christmas later that night that you will want to see.  Plus Jake and Sally come out after the performance for a special meet and greet that wasn’t announced in our navigator.  We of course had to get a picture with them in our costumes.

Our family loves dressing up and also packed Toy Story 4 costumes for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom.

Date Night at Palo or Remy

Make sure you check out the adult only restaurants too.  You can make reservations in advance at Palo or Remy for a perfect date night with your sweetie.  The dress code for these restaurants is actually different than the main dining rooms with men required to wear dress pants or slacks with a collared shirt (jacket is optional) and women must wear a dress, skirt, or pants with a blouse. I wore a snake skin floor length dress by Xscape and my hubby wore black pants and dark grey suit jacket.

Other Cruise Nights

Since we coordinated all our other nightly outfits, I figured why stop there.  Right?  While scrolling Etsy, I stumbled on these skirts from The Brave Little Tailor and realized that I needed them in my life.  The Disney Cruise skirt caught my eye first and I easily paired it with a men’s cruise logo button shirt from the same shop.  My Disney Cruise ears were purchased from Tink Ears on Etsy.   The older boys wore red and blue polos to match.  Lastly to match, I found this adorable Disney Cruise Line button shirt for my 3 year old in the cruise gift shop. The gift shops have a great selection of logo clothing options.

From the same Etsy shop, I also ordered a Star Wars skirt.  I secretly hope that we do a Star Wars Day at Sea Disney Cruise next time.  My Mickey ears were purchased on Etsy from Mouse Ear Love.  I see an addiction forming!  My hubby’s Star Wars shirt came from the Disney Store online.  Gap kids also has a ton of Disney themed clothes including these Star Wars shirts that I got for the older boys.  To complete the family theme, the little guy’s outfit came from Macy’s.

Disney Character Meet & Greets

It probably goes without saying that if you are visiting the princesses and you are a little girl then a princess dress is a must. They all looked so darling and I knew that I need something for my boys too. We bought these adorable shirts form Southern Gals Decals last cruise that said Princess Protection Agency and paired them with some sunglasses for the older boys. My youngest wore his prince outfit again and even carried a glass slipper for Cinderella. Oh my heart!

Disney Pajamas and Swim Suits

Sailing on a Disney Cruise in the Fall means there will be a ton of sales on those summer items. I waited until closer to our set sail date when all the swim suits and pajamas went on sale. I purchased most of them from the Disney Store online and the rest from Target.

For each cruise, we have a personalized set of Disney pajamas made for the boys. This one was no exception. I worked with my favorite Etsy seller, Birdie James Embroidery, to develop the design. The bat Mickey head turned out awesome! Our facebook group hosted a pajama party one morning and this was the perfect time to get them out. After breakfast, we went to a meet & greet with Peter Pan.

And that my friends, is a wrap on all the fun. For some this list may be too much so feel free to pick out what resonates with you. Don’t forget my tip from my last post on ordering a digital photo package from Shutters. You won’t regret it because they do a phenomenal job. If you are a seasoned cruiser then share your favorite outfit tips in the comments. Hopefully this helps you all find some inspiration for your next Disney Cruise and maybe I will see you on the ship.
