WHAT TO WEAR ON YOUR DISNEY CRUISE

The countdown to your Disney Cruise is on and you are ready to start planning what you and your family are going to wear.  How exciting!  From cruise casual to formal night, there are so many options to choose from.  At no surprise to some, we took full advantage of the themes each night on our last cruise.  So maybe this is your first cruise or maybe you are here for a little inspiration, either way I got you covered.

DRESS CODES & EMBARKATION DAY

Start your first day boarding the ship with a couple outfits.  One being a matching family shirt and the other being cruise casual.  Yes, we are a matching t-shirt kind of family.  Skip this step if that is not your thing.  We boarded the ship with the fun cruise shirts then had our swim suits packed to start enjoying the ship right away.  My boys quickly found the pool and splash area.  You will likely not see your luggage before dinner so your cruise casual will be needed to enter the main dining rooms.  Cruise casual simply means no swimwear or tank tops.

SEMI FORMAL

Depending on the length of your cruise and theme, you could have a semi formal night.  You can look at previous navigators or call Disney to find out your nightly itinerary.  For semi formal night, women can wear a dress or pantsuit and men can wear dress pants and a nice shirt.  On our last cruise, we found cute Mickey button up shirts for the boys at The Gap.  My husband wore dress pants with a shirt/tie and I wore a black Ralph Lauren cocktail dress.  Keep in mind, that dressing up is optional.  Some people go all out, like this girl, and others simply wear cruise casual each night.

FORMAL NIGHT

Formal night is a great excuse to get all fancy in your very best dresses and suits.  Really, how many times do you get a chance to dress up as a family in ‘normal’ life?  Of course, this too is optional and not everyone dresses up.  I took full advantage of the opportunity and wore a red gown from Simply Dresses.  The red was perfect for the Christmas season!  My hubby wore a black suit and Mickey tie.  Each of our three boys also had on a suit with a Mickey vest or tie.  I found all their suits at Macy’s.  Fun.com also has some really fun Marvel suits for guys and boys.  Wish I would of found these sooner.  All the fun Mickey ties and vest were purchased off of Etsy.

REMY & PALO DINING

Enjoy a date night with your sweetie at Palo or Remy.  Experiencing the fine dining venues are a must at least once on your cruise.  Trust me on this!  You won’t regret it.  You can choose from a brunch, dinner, or dessert.  However, brunch reservations are very hard to get as they are very popular.  The dress code is actually different than the main dining rooms with men required to wear dress pants or slacks with a collared shirt (jacket is optional) and women must wear a dress, skirt, or pants with a blouse.

PIRATE NIGHT

Pirate night is a part of every itinerary and quite possibly the most fun night of the entire cruise.  Yo ho ho!  You could simply wear the bandanas supplied to your room by Disney or go all out with a complete pirate costume.  We found Disney Pirates of the Caribbean costumes for the boys at the Disney Store before we left home.  We also signed them up for BBB to get some fun pirate makeup done before pirate night started.  The BBB sells pirate costumes along with princess dresses, too.  Just be prepared to pay a little more on board.  I bought my hubby’s pirate costume from Amazon and mine from Majestic Velvets.  Now, it’s time to brush up on your best pirate slang.  Ahoy, matey!

THEMED NIGHTS

Besides Pirate night, your cruise may also have another themed night depending on when you cruise.  For our upcoming cruise, there will be a Halloween Night during which we can dress up in costumes and go trick or treating around the boat.  We might just have to put our Nightmare Before Christmas costumes on repeat from last Halloween.  Other themed nights could be on the Star Wars Day or Marvel Day at Sea.

DAY AT THE BEACH

During a day excursion or a visit to Castaway Cay make sure you pack or wear your swim suit.  Don’t worry about packing towels to bring on the boat because you will be provided towels as you exit the boat or they will be provided to you on Castaway Cay.  Also pack a beach bag with all the essentials for a day at the beach like sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, first aid kit, baby powder, camera/phone, beach shoes, and zip lock bag.

MEET & GREETS

Ok I know, here is where I might of went a teensy weensy too far.  But I love it!  We dressed the boys up is fun t-shirts to meet the princesses, Frozen characters, and for our Disney Junior breakfast.  What princess doesn’t need a protection agency?  They were so adorable with their shirts and sunglasses!

For the Disney Junior breakfast, the boys had on Pirate Jack shirts and I wore a Sofia the First DisneyBounding outfit.  Not sure what DisneyBounding is?  It is simply dressing up in stylish every day outfits that are inspired by a particular character.

Finally to meet the Frozen princess, the boys had Olaf shirts and I went with DisneyBounding again of Princess Anna.

PAJAMAS

Why not end the day with a fun pair of matching pajamas?!  I think we might of  crossed the line and packed too many matching sets when a fellow cruiser questioned just how many we brought on board.  Oopsie!  The new Star Wars Movie: The Last Jedi was being released while we were on board last time.  By being on a Disney Cruise, you can see the new movies the night before they are released on land.  So cool, right?  We went to a late movie in family Stars Wars pajamas that I found at the Disney store.  I think we stood out in the crowd!

Every Christmas season we purchase matching pajamas for the boys from Birdie James Embroidery.  They always do an amazing job for us.  Check out these from our last cruise and the Halloween set for later this year.

Burt’s Bees always has the cutest family pajamas so we purchased a Christmas set and added an iron on cruise logo to them.  Worked out perfectly to meet the big guy dressed in red, Santa himself!

After all this, you will want to document the fun you had so go ahead and purchase the digital photography package by Shutters.  Then don’t miss the photo opportunities before each dinner with different backdrops and the photographers.  Finally, enjoy your cruise and make some memories that will last a lifetime.
