An Inside Look at A Spoon Full of Sugar Candy Store

When you walk into the front door of this historic home, you are greeted with the elegance and charm of the Parker Grace Tea Room.  A few short steps and up the stairs awaits a magical fantasyland of any kid’s dream.  A Spoon Full of Sugar has just about every kind of candy you can imagine.  They even have the vintage candy that can bring back memories from your childhood.  However it doesn’t stop there, you will also find unique items, toys and gifts too.

A Spoon Full of Sugar and Parker Grace Tea Room are nestled in a quaint little town in Roanoke, IN.  This town is located just 20 minutes west of Fort Wayne.  Two sisters opened both the candy shop and tea room last month in November 2019.  Cathy Hawk’s followed a dream to open a candy store and her sister, Laura McBride with previous experience, opened the tea room.

Main Room

A Spoon Full of Sugar is divided into three rooms.  The main room is filled with a selection of notsalgic treats.  Front and center is an overflowing table of taffy with a large Santa right in the middle.  My eyes were drawn in every direction trying to take it all in.  During my many visits here, I have actually seen more ladies shopping and buying candy for their themselves and grandchildren than I have seen kids.  There really is candy for all ages here.

Super Hero Room

Grab your cape and enter the superhero room.  You will likely notice the life-size Captain American in the middle of the room.  Cathy purchased it from China and has plans for more superhero decorations after the holidays.  Even the ceiling light follows the theme with it being Captain America’s shield.   Most of you may know this but I do adore a good theme.  In this room, you will find gifts like pull back cars, action figures, and of course superhero capes. This room was the first place that my boys raced too.  How could they not, it screams all boy.

Pink Princess Room

This is a little slice of heaven for any girl!  From the candielrs to the beautiful decorated princess displays, it has it all down to the last detail.  Besides, candy there are tiaras, butterfly wings, jewelry, and tons of stuffed animals.  I can’t wait to take my niece here for her birthday.

Parker Grace Tea Room

Laurie McBride named the Parker and Grace Tea Room after one of McBride’s granddaughters.  The eclectic style from the upstairs flows throughout the main floor too.  All the food and decadent desserts are homemade.  Let me tell you, they are delicious.  Whether you are celebrating a birthday or simply want an elegant lunch, this is the perfect place.  I envision little girls having tea with their family then heading upstairs for the royal treatment complete with a tiara.  You can make a reservation or pop in for lunch from 11 – 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday.

Coming Soon

Both sisters have big plans for the coming year including decorations and events.  They plan to host events and even kid parties with the Superhero and Princess theme.  She probably noticed my eyes light up when she mentioned party. There is also plans for a princess makeover weekend. Once the weather is warmer, they can utilize the upstairs balcony too.  There is also plans for customized party favor packages and corporate gifts.  Be on the lookout for events like cookies with Santa around the different holidays too.

So what are you waiting for?  Start planning your next trip to Roanoke, Indiana.  Both A Spoon Full of Sugar and Parker Grace Tea Room are more than a good place to eat and visit.  It is about creating an experience as a family and making memories that will last forever!
