Hot Wheels Birthday Party At Home While Social Distancing

We decided not to let the pandemic win!  The boys look forward to celebrating their birthdays every year and even in the midst of this new normal we wanted to make it special.  We just have to be a little creative.  The celebration must still go on and now more important than ever.

There are so many ways to celebrate birthdays while social distancing as seen in a recent post, 40 Ways to Celebrate Birthdays During Social Distancing. Plus our little guy loves Hot Wheels so we knew we had to still create a theme.  Check out all these fun Hot Wheels party ideas below.

BIRTHDAY DONUTS

In our house, it’s tradition to start the day with birthday pancakes or donut cake.  We decorate them with sprinkles and candles then sing Happy Birthday. The last couple of birthdays we created a stacked donut cake and they have been a huge hit with the boys.  Eat more hole foods, right?  The cake topper came from Little Bits by Jessie on Etsy and I of course used some Hot Wheels cars to decorate too.

NUMBER SHIRT

For each birthday, we have the boys wear a special shirt.  This year was no different!  The shirt was purchased from a talented lady on Etsy at Makin’ Memories Fun. Our birthday boy loved it!  We layered it with a Hot Wheels jacket to complete the look.  It came in a kit with a hat, flag, and trophy from Amazon.  I even made him a special face mask to match in order to document this crazy time in our lives.

BIRTHDAY PARADE

One way to celebrate birthdays during social distancing has been with the popular birthday parades.  We enlisted help from our local police department and it was amazing!  You could see him bursting with excitement as he heard the sirens getting closer.  All our friends, family, and teachers that drove by made it extra special!  I had tears in my eyes for the love that everyone showed him.

YARD SIGN

Another way to celebrate during this new normal is with yard signs.  Yard Signs by Jess set up a personalized Happy Birthday display right in our front yard.  He had the biggest smile and was jumping around in excitement when he saw it for the first time.

PARTY DECORATIONS

Go big or go home is my motto!  I enjoy decorating for birthday parties and really run with the themes.  However, the pandemic made it a little tougher to purchase items.  Thankful for curbside pick up and local companies like Shindigz who helped make it all happen.  The cake table is the focal point of the party with a backdrop purchased from Kids Party Works, Balloons from Shindigz, and a Birthday banner from Little Bits by Jessie. I actually used several items that we had leftover from another Go-Kart racing party that we did last year too.  Find more racing party themed ideas at The Ultimate Go-Kart Racing Birthday Party.

TABLE SETTING

When I first thought about the Hot Wheels birthday theme, Shindigz immediately came to mind.  When I was planning my last birthday party I came across all their party decorations for Hot Wheels and quickly pinned it to my Pinterest board for later.  The personalized plates were something that I have never done before and absolutely loved how they turned out.

FOOD IDEAS

We kept the food to a minimum since it was just us eating it.  Of course, no birthday is complete without cake!  Halls Takes the Cake just reopened after closing due to COVID 19 and we were so happy to be able to support them.   The cake was Hot Wheel themed and turned out perfect!  We also had chocolate tire donuts, Hot Wheels cookies from T’s Homemade Cookies, Stoplight Brownies, Checkered Rice Krispie treats, and DeBrand Fine chocolate race cars.

PARTY FOR ONE

To continue our social distancing celebration, we passed out gift bags to parade-goers for them to celebrate with us at home.  Inside each bag was a party for one to join in on a birthday zoom call and sing happy birthday.

FAVOR BOXES

We love to give fun party favors to our guests.  This year we passed them out at the parade too.  Each box included personalized themed items from Shindigz, Hot Wheels car, and a few items from Amazon.

At the end of the day, he said it was the best day ever!  The smile on his face made jumping through all the extra hoops to get items for his party worth it.  The only sad part was explaining to a 4-year old that his friends couldn’t play.  So continue celebrating and making those special memories even during this time of uncertainty.  This will one day pass and you will be stronger on the other side.

      1. The jacket is out of stock on Amazon and no indication if and when they’ll restock the jacket. Any chance you’d sell that one?

  1. Hi! Where did you get the banner with lucas’ name? love it! been searching for 45 minutes cant find anything like it

    1. I’d like to know too. I have been searching everywhere for the name banner. I really want to purchase one, but I can’t find the same one.
