Mint Oreo Shamrock Shake

Why should Shamrock Shake season only come one time a year?  No need to wait until St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy this mint Oreo version all year round.  This recipe is a simple mix of mint chocolate ice cream, mint Oreos, and milk but where the magic happens is what goes on top.  It is sure to be a big hit for the whole family.

St. Patrick’s Day is such a fun holiday in our house.  From setting up our leprechaun trap and wearing all things green to eating a festive meal, we enjoy making memories as a family.  Every year we set up a brunch to celebrate this holiday.  This year we served up rainbow pancakes, shamrock sausage, St. Patrick’s Day donuts, shamrock chocolate pretzels, gold Oreos, sugar cookies, and a rainbow fruit platter.  Check out all the details including decorations at St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow Inspired Party.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
  • 3/4 cup Whole Milk
  • 2-3 drops Mint Green Food Coloring (for vivid color)
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Icing
  • 1 cup Mint Chocolate Oreos crushed
  • Whipped Cream, Rainbow bites candy,
  • 1/2 Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Cherries for top

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Spread vanilla frosting on the rim of a glass, about 1/4 inch thick. Press Oreo pieces into the frosting until it is completely covered.
  2. Add ice cream, milk, and food coloring (optional) to a blender. Add more ice cream/milk to reach desired consistency.
  3. Stir in the rest of the crushed Oreos.
  4. Pour the shake into the prepared glass. Add the whipped cream, rainbow candy bites, ice cream sandwich, and cherry on top.  Then serve with a fun straw.

RECIPE VARIATIONS

  • You can make this shake dairy-free by using coconut milk ice cream, coconut whipped cream, and coconut ice cream sandwiches but the consistency will be much thinner.
  • Whole milk can be replaced with half-n-half for an extra thick and creamy shake.
  • Mint chocolate chip ice cream can be replaced with vanilla or reduced-fat vanilla ice cream to lower the calorie count.
  • For the chocolate lover, you can drizzle in a little bit of chocolate syrup.  Swirl some in the empty glass before pouring in the shake.
  • Make an adult version by adding in a bit of vanilla or marshmallow vodka, or creme de menth.
